About Reverie Portraits.
There’s someone really special in your life, someone that lights up your world and makes your heart swoon, someone who, in the confusion of daily life and hassles, reminds you of the simpler truths buried deep beneath the surface of dull routine, someone who gives your life meaning, brings you joy, lightness, delight. Your golden compass, your north star.
Maybe it’s someone, maybe it’s some-ones. Maybe it’s your own self, why not? Self-love is rather hard to find these days. Regardless, you want to acknowledge and honor their importance, their unique radiance.
So you need something special. Unique. Custom made. Art in their or your image. Something that feels right, that captures that elusive essence of self. I hear you: doing just that is the reason why I paint portraits.
While my portraits are realistic and capture the person’s likeness, I am not interested in copying an already existing photograph. Instead, what sparks my creativity is the task of capturing their unfathomable light, their spirit, through flowing and bright colors. We do carry ourselves in pretty lumps of flesh and bones, and yet, it’s that intangible substance, that consciousness, that makes us us. It’s what we love and recognize in each other, it’s what matters and what we want to remember in the end. Therefore, it’s also what motivates me to paint.
Working in watercolor allows me to play with and explore the tension between solid form and that fluid, fleeting psyche. With colored pencils, I can enhance and emphasize details. When layered over washes of watercolor, I can convey the necessary depth of shadow that brings luminescence and three-dimensionality to my work. I also like the effect of colors bleeding outside the constraints of form, merging with the background, like a glowing aura, blurring the line between where one person ends and another begins.
